Senators Condemn Former Minister's Arrest in Argentina

Buenos Aires, November 15 (NA) -- The inter-bloc of senators from Union for the Homeland repudiated this Saturday the detention of the former Minister of Federal Planning of Kirchnerism. Julio De Vido described the procedure as 'arbitrary.' In a press release accessed by the Argentine News Agency, it denounced the existence of a 'political persecution' driven by the Justice and sectors of the ruling party. In the text, the lawmakers stated that the arrest of the former official is 'one more example' of a network of harassment against opposition leaders, which they argued aims to 'discipline the national, popular, and democratic leadership.' The bloc also questioned De Vido's detention conditions, warning that he may have been denied access to medication, basic services, and communication with his lawyers, framing these facts as a violation of international human rights standards. The senators recalled that the former minister faces health problems and is about to turn 77, and questioned that, despite having previous medical reports, the Justice ordered new expert opinions and socio-environmental reports. In the statement, the inter-bloc compared the situation to other episodes it considers part of a 'systematic persecution plan,' and called for 'the unity of the national field' in the face of what they described as a 'surrender and adjustment model' led by Javier Milei.
